Students: Earn service learning hours!Volunteering with MY Baltimore City Teen Court is a great way to earn meaningful service learning hours toward your graduation requirement. Our trained volunteers provide an important service called "jury duty" in each Teen Court hearing. As a juror, you ask questions of the respondent and then deliberate to decide appropriate sanctions for the offense committed.
Teen Court is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the law, legal profession, and juvenile justice. You'll work alongside of judges, attorneys, and law school students, so you'll get a first-hand look at the law. Teen Court also teaches you how to think like a lawyer - it's your job to ask questions that uncover the "who, what, where, why, and how" of the situation. You may volunteer for Teen Court if you:

What's the time commitment?

That's the best part. The time commitment is whatever you can offer. Teen Court operates every other Thursday (with a few exceptions) throughout the year. It runs from about 4:45 - 7:00 pm, with some variables - like any court docket, some cases take longer then expected, and some wrap up relatively quickly. In an typical evening, we run a virtual courtroom with 3-4 cases per night.
Youth are asked to arrive at 4:45pm. Judges and facilitators are asked to arrive by 5:00.
Students can simply show up for Teen Court sessions, and adults may schedule ahead of time with our Coordinator. About two hours, every two weeks, or when you can work us into your schedule - that's it! Contact Samantha Bell at samantha@mylaw.org or 667-210-2519.
